September 11th, 2001 (9/11): This remains the deadliest terrorist attack in human history. Al-Qaeda operatives hijacked four airplanes, crashing them into the World Trade Center towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Virginia, and a field in Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives.
Oklahoma City Bombing (1995): Timothy McVeigh, a domestic terrorist, detonated a truck bomb outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. The attack killed 168 people, including 19 children.
Anthrax Attacks (2001): Shortly after 9/11, anthrax spores were sent through the mail, targeting media outlets and government buildings. Five people died, and the event heightened anxieties after the prior attacks.
