Novak Djokovic Makes History, reached 13th Wimbldon Semi via walkover
Novak Djokovic has reached a record-breaking 13th Wimbledon semifinal, but not in the way he would have hoped. His quarterfinal opponent, Alex de Minaur, was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to an injury, handing Djokovic a walkover into the next round.
De Minaur, the Australian youngster, suffered a leg injury during his fourth-round match against Stefanos Tsitsipas. Despite his best efforts to recover, he was unable to take the court against Djokovic, conceding the match and ending his Wimbledon campaign.
Djokovic, who has been in imperious form throughout the tournament, was sympathetic towards his injured opponent. “I feel for Alex, he’s a great player and a good guy,” Djokovic said in a statement. “I hope he recovers quickly and gets back to doing what he loves.”
The Serbian superstar’s historic semifinal appearance surpasses his previous record of 12, set in 2022. He will face either David Goffin or Frances Tiafoe in the next round, as he continues his quest for a fifth Wimbledon title.
Djokovic’s dominance on the grass courts of the All England Lawn Tennis Club is unmatched, and he remains the favorite to lift the coveted trophy. Despite the anticlimactic nature of his quarterfinal victory, Djokovic’s focus remains unwavering, and he is poised to make the most of this opportunity to add to his illustrious career achievements.
